HISTORICAL MAIDSTONE
This captivating DVD takes the viewer back to a time when Maidstone was little more than a collegiate church, an archbishop's palace and a collection of water mills. But peaceful times were not to last. With the arrival of the Middle Ages, Maidstone endured periods of plague, rebellion and civil war, its people punished and persecuted for their religious and political beliefs in the vicious struggles between Protestant and Catholic, King and Parliament.
Using a wealth of old paintings, maps, photographs and archive film, this absorbing production brings the past to life and provides a unique record of a thousand years of history, from Domesday to the year 2000.
Also included on DVD - archive film of Ransome's trolley buses in 1928, and film of Maidstone's pageant 1931.
Right - Archbishop Courtenay or Arundel (All Saints Church)
